Sleep is basically just a time machine to matcha. 🍵

I am definitely not a morning person but this 16oz of goodness gives me a reason to look forward to getting my ass out of bed and starting my day. I'm sure by now you've seen this on your IG feed or at your local overpriced hipster-vegan coffee shop but what is it really? Matcha is a green powder made from a specific kind of green tea leaf. Twenty days before harvest, the leaves are shaded from direct sunlight, which amps up the chlorophyll levels (and accounts for that visually stunning green color) and increases the production of the amino acid L-Theanine. The leaves are hand-picked and laid out to dry. Once they are rid of their veins and stems, they’re stone-ground into what is finally the matcha powder I'm so in love with. While today you can grab an almond milk matcha latte on the go, matcha was once revered and used for centuries in Japan as a sacred ceremonial drink. Matcha contains a potent amount of antioxidants including the uber-beneficial EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). EGCG has been shown to:
- boost metabolism
- improve skin
- decrease cancer growth
- improve brain function
- improve energy levels
- and improve your overall quality of life because it's freakin' magical goodness

Have you tried matcha and thought it was bitter and gross? Well, I've been there; and I'm so proud of how far I've come. What changed? I recently started making matcha lattes with oat milk and now there's no going back. The oat milk is so creamy and naturally sweet (think healthy cereal milk) they really are a matcha made in heaven.

Anyway, If you happen to enjoy this recipe as much as I do, make sure to tag @yasmeen_lee and #veganyasmeen on your recreations and share the matcha love! 💚

2 cups (16oz) oat milk | this is my favorite + this is what I get when it's sold out
2 tsp matcha powder
1 tbsp TOCOS
5-6 drops of stevia (optional)

Blend all ingredients until well incorporated and frothy. Pour over ice and enjoy! xx
